About Tangala Safari Camp

Tangala Safari Camp is more than just a destination – it’s a legacy. Established in 1940, it stands proudly as one of the earliest safari camps in Thornybush, deeply rooted in the history and traditions of the region. Over the decades, Tangala has evolved to seamlessly blend its timeless charm with modern eco-conscious living.

In 2016, the camp underwent a thoughtful transformation with the addition of six colonial-style tents, offering a fresh take on classic safari elegance. Alongside these enhancements came a bold step towards sustainability—Tangala now operates entirely on renewable solar energy, a commitment to preserving the pristine ecology of the area for generations to come.

A pivotal moment in 2017 brought an unparalleled connection to the wild when Thornybush removed its fences, opening its borders to the iconic Kruger National Park. This change allowed wildlife to roam freely, creating unforgettable safari experiences in one of Africa’s most celebrated wilderness areas. At Tangala, history, sustainability, and extraordinary wildlife encounters come together to offer a safari adventure like no other.

At Tangala Safari Camp, we believe in making a difference – both for the environment and the wildlife that calls it home. Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Completely off the grid, the camp is powered by renewable solar energy from our dedicated solar farm. Even our water is drawn from a borehole, sustainably pumped using solar power, ensuring we tread lightly on the land we cherish.

Beyond sustainability, Tangala plays an active role in rhino conservation. As these majestic creatures face growing threats, we proudly contribute monthly to initiatives that protect and preserve rhino populations in the area. By staying with us, you’re not just embarking on an unforgettable safari – you’re becoming part of a legacy of care for the environment and its incredible wildlife.
