Tangala Safari Camp, located in the heart of the Thornybush Big 5 Game Reserve, offers an intimate and eco-friendly escape for nature enthusiasts. Established in 1940 and renovated in 2016, the camp combines heritage with modern sustainability, featuring solar-powered operations and accommodations that include three authentic bush chalets and six colonial-style tents. Each unit boasts an en-suite bathroom, mosquito-netted twin beds, and private covered patios overlooking breathtaking views of the Drakensberg Mountain Range and an active waterhole. Guests can immerse themselves in authentic African cuisine, thrilling game drives, and the camp’s commitment to conservation, including its ongoing support for rhino protection. 					  Great times in the bush   - We had a wonderful 2 nights at Tangala. A small intimate camp with a lovely outlook on an active water hole. All of the staff were friendly and did there... read more utmost to please. We had a wonderful safari experience with our guide Clement who ensured we had some unique sightings. The coffee and sundowners in the bush were a highlight. We also enjoyed getting to know the other guests. Meals are buffet style and all the guests share a long table. We also loved sitting in the boma before dinner. The food was simple and tasty. The reason for the four stars is that the accommodation is in need of upgrading. Rooms more rustic than one would expect at this price point and towels were old. The safari vehicle was also damaged in the back row causing an uncomfortable ride for those sitting there. One would also expect WiFi to be complementary. This did not stop us having a thoroughly enjoyable time. I hope the owners invest in improving this lovely intimate camp. Thank you to Johan and Madeline for being attentive hosts.

					  The best game sightings.   - The game sightings and game drives were nothing short of amazing. 

The area is rich in a diverse number of animals as well as many predators and elephants.... read more Leopards are my favourite wild sighting and we saw two incredible sightings across 3 drives. 

The food was lovely, never went hungry. The  staff were professional and  pleasure to be with. Nothing was ever too much. We enjoyed being at the pool in the day - looking out at the bush. 

I would highly recommend Tangala for all those who want a real bush experience with delicious food and amazing game.

					  Great experience at Tangala. Loved it!   - We had a great stay at Tangala. We got there with our own car and it is quite esay to find.  You don't need to wait at the first/... read more main gate.  Once inside the reserve there is only one road you follow and then turn right at Guernsay Road ( the same name than the roads outside!!) Then after several km the Tangala Safari Camp is clearly marked after Jackelberry Gate. 

The hosts are very friendly and the staff is super helpful. We instantly felt at ease and appreciated the small number of visitors.  All 6 of us slept in 3 tents which are very well equipped. We were not cold or hot at all (they have hested blankets)

Food was very good. We loved the breakfast. 

The driver for the game drive was very interesting answering all our questions and we loved getting up early to go on our safari. We spotted easily the Big five and the driver had some other surprises for us!

Thanks to the Waterwhole we could spot lots of animals just sitting on the main deck with the pool.

Altogether it was a very memorable time at the tangali safari camp.
